m&m: the venue

The love song within a foreign film that is my life is coming to its climax; Manu and I will be husband and wife in a little over a year. (I know, I’m still pinching myself too.)

It’s only been about two weeks since we’ve been engaged and already we’ve had super highs and super lows. The lows being that I’ll always be a person split between two countries that I love so much. Last night during a lesson with one of my adult students, Nietta, she said, without any prompt:

“Marissa, now you’re young and full of optimism, but even you know that your life will not be easy in the future. If you remember the love you and Manu have for each other, that will be what gets you through the hard times.”

She’s so sage.

The super highs have definitely outweighed the lows, one being that we’ve already found our venue! (The people who know me are like, “When have you ever been so organized?”)  And I say to them, friends, I have an Italian and an American wedding to plan, I need to be on my game! The venue we found (the first one we even saw, actually) is a perfect blend of rustic southern Italian charm; think olive groves, palm trees and white stone.

Today we have to go talk to the priest to finalize the date and I swear, I have never been so excited to go into a church in all my life.

(Thanks again everyone for your well-wishes and adorable comments - Kate/Mom and I always talk about how nice they are and how lucky I am to have found such sweet readers!)

  5. I know exactly how you feel about always being torn between two countries - Jurgen and I have this hard conversation all the time - will we ever move to the US, if so for how long?, when we get married where will it be? - but it's so true, when you are with your soul mate, your love for eachother makes all of those tough decisions worth while :)

The venue is stunning! When I get engaged I am so going to email you about how you're going to pull off the dual wedding thing, because I'll probably be doing the same!

  10. Oh Marissa, it's such an exciting time for you and your Man-u (couldn't resist). It is true. It's not easy being married to someone who calls home someplace far away, I know. My husband is Dutch and has been in the US for over 10 years and he's counting down the days until we move to the Netherlands. One person will always be fighting off a bout of homesickness, having to explain the humor of Seinfeld, using expressions that do not translate into English, wearing far too much pink for a straight man AND calling a blow dryer a hair blower for like 11 years!! But for me, it's exciting being with someone who is from a different culture especially since it means my life will always include international travel. Life is not easy and it's short so go slow and follow your heart :)
