let's time travel

When I was little I loved to pretend that lived in 1904, the year of my Samantha doll, with a satchel to carry my books to school, a petticoat and a basin to wash my face in at night. I loved antiques and tea cups and classical music. Yup, I was just your average 10-year-old. My uncle's cape house brings out that little girl in me with its old-world furnishings. Hello, telephone nook!?

We ate great food as well: fresh caught striped bass grilled on a cedar plank, wasabi edamame hummus (so good) and a blueberry pie endorsed by Oprah

Hope your weekend brought out the little kid in you, too.

Looks like a great weekend! My parents always told me I was born in the wrong era--I loved the samantha doll too! I can only imagine if my parents had that telephone nook when I was younger--I probably would have spent a lot of my time there. :)

  15. Hole the phone- you had Samantha, also? She was my favorite! I loved that she was rich and had tons of accessories. And that first photo is ridiculously awesome. Love everything about it.

  16. haha, i'm happy you like it! it was super fun to pretend i was a 50s housewife making lots of important calls. samantha was gorgeous and i loved her spirit in all the books! (felicity came in at a close second for me, except i wasn't really into the whole horse thing.)

  19. you are so beautiful!

I was much more shallow with my dolls. Yikes. I had the Kirsten doll because she looked like me (blonde hair blue eyes) but my name is Samantha, so I always felt very special having a doll "named after me" (kids are so narcissistic, right, or that was just me)

One day I decided it would be smart to give Kirsten a buzz cut (uh, AWFUL idea) and my mom was furious! And that was the end of my American dolls. Whoooooops.

Cute post and glad to see you're having fun back in the States!

  20. Haha, this is so funny! I had a Molly doll and actually had an irrational hatred for Samantha- I guess I thought she was a snob?! Molly was just so much cooler with her braids and glasses (clearly I was a hipster before my time). But I did love Samantha's accessories, and remember her white figure skates for Molly.

    Your uncle's house looks fantastic!

  21. haha! it wasn't her fault she was born into old money! :) i really liked molly too, my best friend at the time had her and we would play with them together. they were buds.

  22. very true about narcissistic children. kirsten was definitely not super popular, but i can see the appeal! haha, your poor mom must have freaked when she saw the buzz!
