air popped popcorn (in the microwave!)

Manu and I have a tiny food obsession with popcorn. Mondays and Wednesdays in the winter are our "hangout at home" nights where we make dinner and cozy up on the couch to watch bad TV and eat popcorn, or "poppy," as Manu calls it. We just can't get enough and when we realize we've run out, well, that's a sad, sad day.
Our kitchen is so tiny and we don't have room for a microwave, so we do oil-popped kernels in a pan. Which is good. But this method right here is a game changer. No clean-up required and you save about 25 calories per cup! Yeah, I think we'll be moving aside some appliances for a microwave pronto!
Air Popped Microwave Popcorn
(serves 2)
Pour 1/2 cup popcorn kernels into a brown paper bag. Fold the top over two times so the kernels don't escape. Microwave on high for 2-3 minutes or until popping slows down. Careful opening the bag! Add salt and seasonings of your choice.
Have fun experimenting with this - I know I'm going to try all sorts of seasonings like cayenne + cumin or cinnamon + brown sugar or red pepper flakes + grated cheese! How do you make your popcorn?

AHH this is too sweet! I did this with carmel popcorn my first week of foods class freshman year! I too am OBSESSED with popcorn. Any person from any point in my life will remmeber that one thing about me, I was devistated when i had to get braces and popcorn was on the top of the "NO" list.

  4. WHAT?! That's it? Is it really that simple? I'm a popcorn junkie too (usually with loads of tabasco dashed on) and I pop it in oil on the stove because microwave popcorn here is crazy expensive, and doesn't really taste that good. But if this is all I have to do to microwave my popcorn, I'm definitely trying this! You're a genius! That's why I gave you a shout out on my blog post yesterday :)

Wow! I didn't even know you could do this. I usually just make oil popped popcorn over the stove, but this sounds much easier and healthier. My favorite popcorn is made with rosemary oil, and salt & black pepper sprinkled on top.
