light

Having light in the kitchen is completely new to us and though it's astoundingly simple, you have no idea how happy it makes me. Breakfast in the early morning glow is more relaxing, and Manu has taken to making coffee as soon as he wakes up (!) as opposed to just getting it at the bar on the way to work like he normally does. It lingers long into the afternoon and early evening, and though we've got plenty of other space for me to crash, I always end up in the kitchen. I told Manu I would use the little extra bedroom as an office space, and do all my blogging and lesson planning there. He said I wouldn't, and that the kitchen would end up being my office. As usual, he was right.

Where do you get the most light? What part of the house do you always end up in?

  1. My new apartment is so incredibly bright with windows spanning almost the entire width - a common trend in Norwegian homes. Sometimes it's so bright that I find it difficult to see the TV or my computer screen but it gives me the perfect excuse to make a coffee and grab my book!

  2. Our kitchen is not the place with the best light in the flat, but I do enjoy cooking in there because it's nice and spacious :) I usually do all my work at the kitchen table in the adjoining room, but ironically have a desk in the guest bedroom that I'm supposed to use. It just feels so cramped and stuffy in there for some reason!

  3. Our bedroom gets WAY too much light. Yes, there is a thing. And it makes the place so hot. But we hang out in there because of a super weird layout.

  4. Our kitchen also gets a lot of light but so does the sitting room adjacent to it. In my family we always hang out in the kitchen. This really bothers my husband because we have other rooms in our home which are more comfortable so he's always trying to lure us out but for us the kitchen is where the love (food) is :)

  5. There are 3 windows next to my kitchen table, so every few days I am clearing off the table and turning it into a photography "studio." :)

Our kitchen has a couple of huge windows so it's always flooded with daylight, but it's best in the afternoon. My desk is set up in our kitchen, too, so it's where I spend most of my time. The bf stole the living room from me.

  7. Oh my, there's one tiny window by our dining room table, and that gets the best light. It just floods in and fills the table. Love.

  11. right! we've got to use any light there is! thankfully i have the light in the kitchen now for that, before i had to set up tables in bedrooms and living rooms with all sorts of lighting traps!

  12. that's precious! and reminds me of a typical "dad" thing; when i was little i would only ride my bike in one little corner of the driveway and it would drive my dad crazy that i didn't use the whole thing, but i just liked that spot!

  13. yes, the layout of the house makes a huge difference doesn't it? now that the kitchen is big and has light, we stay in there, but before it was the living room. hot bedrooms are not fun, hope you have a fan!

  15. wow, i can just imagine it! that sounds like HEAVEN! we lucked out with this place but it's hard in the windy streets of the old center to find apartments with lots of windows.

  16. My first kitchen here in France was horrible and dark, it made cooking unpleasant which was sad since I love to cook. But now I have a great big window in my kitchen and I love it!
Right now though, I always end up on my new couch in the living room right next to the huge arched window :)
