This weekend, since in Italy the day after Halloween is a national holiday, we’ll be traveling to Umbria with our closest Italian friends Antonio and Barbara, and I can’t wait! In honor of our little trip, I want to show you the weekend we spent with them in Sorrento three years ago.
It was memorable for many reasons: the amazing guest house we scored with high ceilings, a sea-view terrace, lemon trees outside our bedroom windows and a pink marble bathroom! The food that continued to blow our minds (Caprese salads every day and gnocchi alla sorrentina covered in stringy mozzarella) but the best thing about Sorrento was the limoncello! Like biting into an alcohol soaked lemon from heaven, we decided. Plus, the views of Mount Vesuvius and the characteristic ports with sweet little fishing boats weren’t so bad either.
Sorrento is located on the costa amalfitana, Amalfi Coast, and the views are breathtaking!
This little fishing port was a quick walk from our apartment, and we spent hours just watching the fishermen go about their daily business untangling nets and cleaning their boats.
At the end of the trip, who knows what we did, but we got locked into our apartment! We all had to hop this tiny fence to reach freedom, and we're still laughing about it three years later!

One of the best things we did was take a little tour inside a limoncello "factory" (it was just this room, really) where three generations helped package up their homemade limoncello! Theirs is "crema di limoncello," hence the whitish color, and it's super creamy!
To this day, I still count Trattoria da Emilia as one of the best meals of my life. The freshest caprese salad, lightest fried calamari and cheesiest, most flavorful gnocchi alla sorrentina ever. Plus, it's run by a whole family, with the women in the kitchen and the men out waiting tables. Have you ever been to Sorrento? Go ASAP! Have a happy Halloween, and eat some extra candy for me!

I went to Sorrento a few years ago and really loved it! I especially fell in love with the yellow church down in the heart of the city on the piazza. Hopefully you saw it! Oh! And we ate at this amazing restaurant that was three stories and basically a botanical garden of sorts. If only I could remember the name...Oh! (haha I'm cracking myself up over here) And the limoncello!!
