pear and sunflower smoothie

I’m really good at being healthy from January until May; pre-winter and summer are my habitual indulging periods. (Because how can one resist hot dogs? Barbecues! Ice cream!) It’s hard to get Manu to follow suit on my health quest, but I figured out that if I don’t tell him something is good for him, he’s way more inclined to eat and like it. Take this smoothie, for instance. Had I approached him with this: “Manu this smoothie is so good for you! Pears are rich in fiber and sunflower seeds are a huge source of protein!” He would have likely replied, “Ew.” (His new favorite American word.) Instead, I said, “Mmm, try this blended drink thing I made.” Sold.
Pear and Sunflower Smoothie
(makes about 1 1/2 cups)
1 pear
1 small container greek yogurt
1 tablespoon sunflower seeds
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Peel and chop the pear. Blend with the other ingredients. You can add a little milk of your choice if you like a thinner consistency.

Do you have the same eating habits as your significant other?

  1. Both my husband and I have a few bad habits and indulgences but I do pretty well at reining myself in when I need to. My husband, on the other hand, has a sweet tooth like I've never seen before and he's hardly satisfied with a small taste. I tend to be the voice of reason when it comes to 'treats.'

We have complete opposite tastes. Actually, he eats things I love but should not be eating at all. And he likes his food so simple and straight forward. But I bet he would love this. Looks amazing!

  4. YUM! This officially sounds amazing, love both of those things so this is right up my ally! And too funny about Manu. My boyfriend and I agree on most foodie things, he just hates a bunch of funny little things-- cream cheese, mayo, and iced coffee to start!

Haha. This totally works. I switched our diet - we eat vegetarian the majority of the time - without saying anything to my husband. Focusing on the taste factor, rather than the health factor, works for kids too!
